| A Thought From C. H.
Spurgeon:
"But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat" Leviticus 22:11 Strangers, sojourners, and servants upon hire were not to eat of holy things. It is so in spiritual matters still. But two classes were free at the sacred table, those who were bought with the priest's money and those who were born into the priest's house. Bought and born, these were the two indisputable proofs of a right to holy things. Bought. Our great High Priest has bought with a price all those who put their trust in Him. They are His absolute property -- altogether the LORD's. Not for what they are in themselves, but for their owner's sake they are admitted into the same privileges which He Himself enjoys, and "they shall eat of his meat." He has meat to eat which worldlings know not of. "Because ye belong to Christ," therefore shall ye share with your LORD. Born. This is an equally sure way to privilege. If born in the
Priest's house we take our place with the rest of the family.
Regeneration makes us fellow-heirs and of the same body, and, therefore,
the peace, the joy, the glory, which the Father has given to Christ,
Christ has given to us. Redemption and regeneration have given us a
double claim to the divine permit of this promise. |
| A Thought For The
Week: Who Is Jesus Christ? One of the greatest statements ever made about the person of Jesus Christ was made by the great black preacher, (No, not Jeremiah Wright) S.M. Lockeridge. He is in Heaven now. And I cannot do justice to how he said this. But I want to share this statement with you, because it will bless your heart, stretch your mind, and move your soul. This is probably the most powerful statement anyone has ever made about who Jesus Christ really is. Dr. Lockeridge says of Jesus: Isn. this amazing? "He’s the sinner’s savior. He’s the centerpiece of civilization. He stands alone in Himself. He’s unique. He’s unparalleled. He’s unprecedented. He’s supreme. He’s preeminent. He’s the loftiest idea in literature…. the highest concept in philosophy... the fundamental truth in theology... the cardinal necessity of religion. "He’s the miracle of the age. He supplies strength for the weak. He’s available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick, He cleans the lepers, He forgives sinners, He discharges debtors, He delivers captives, He defends the feeble, He blesses the young, He serves the unfortunate, He regards the aged, He rewards the diligent, He beautifies the meek. Do you know Him? He’s my king!" He’s "the king of knowledge… the well-spring of wisdom… the doorway of deliverance… the pathway of peace, He’s the roadway of righteousness… the highway of holiness… the gateway of glory… the master of the mighty… the captain of the conquerors… the head of the heroes… the leader of the legislators... the overseer of the overcomers, He’s the governor of governors, He’s the prince of princes, He’s the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. Do you know Him?" "His life is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy and His burden is light." Dr. Lockeridge would slow down at that point and say, "I’m trying to describe Him to you." But then he’d say, "But the problem is, He’s indescribable. He’s irresistible. He’s incomprehensible. He’s invincible. The Pharisees hated Him. The Jews rejected Him. Pilate condemned Him. The Romans crucified Him. Our sins killed Him. The rich man buried Him. But the grave could not hold Him. And death could not handle Him. And He rose triumphant on the third day, and He ascended into Heaven, and He sits enthroned at the right hand of God the Father. He is the Lord of Heaven, the Lord of the Church, the Lord of our lives. He is our High Priest in Heaven. He is our coming King. That’s who Jesus is. Do you k3now Him? Is He your king? Is He your Lord?"

| A devil at home! The way in which a man lives in his home is vital. It will not do to be a saint abroad--and a devil at home! There are some of that kind. They are wonderfully sweet at a prayer meeting, but they are dreadfully sour to their wives and children. This will never do! Every genuine believer should say, and mean it, 'I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.' It is in the home that we get the truest proof of godliness! 'What sort of a man is he?' said one to George Whitefield; and Whitefield answered, 'I cannot say, for I never lived with him.' That is the way to test a man--to live with him. Charles Spurgeon, From his sermon #2362 |
