A Thought From C. H. Spurgeon:
Our fruit comes
from God as to spiritual providence. When the dew-drops fall from heaven,
when the cloud looks down from on high, and is about to distil its liquid
treasure, when the bright sun swells the berries of the cluster, each
heavenly boon may whisper to the tree and say, "From me is thy fruit
found." The fruit owes much to the root--that is essential to
fruitfulness--but it owes very much also to external influences. How much we
owe to God's grace-providence! in which He provides
us constantly with quickening, teaching, consolation, strength, or whatever
else we want. To this we owe our all of usefulness or virtue. Our fruit comes
from God as to wise husbandry. The gardener's sharp-edged knife promotes the
fruitfulness of the tree, by thinning the clusters, and by cutting off
superfluous shoots. So is it, Christian, with that pruning which the Lord
gives to thee. "My Father is the husbandman. Every branch in Me that
beareth not fruit He taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit He
purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." Since our God is the
author of our spiritual graces, let us give to Him all the glory of our
salvation. |

A Thought For The
Week: Standing in
Jesus. 1st John 2:22 – 27 Beloved we had the first
part of this last Sunday and now understand the unction we have from the Holy
Sprit is the anointing to learn God’s word. We want to start this week by
looking at verse 22 “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the
Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father
and the Son.” As we look at this verse we want look deeper than skin deep
here we want to get all that we can and to do that we must put a little
thought behind it. I believe when the Lord says “Who is a liar but he that
denieth that Jesus is the Christ” it goes much deeper than just believing
that Jesus is the Saviour, I believe it is talking about who He truly is, and
that would be the Sovereign God of the universe and the one who saves
sinners, He is the head of the church, He is also the foundation of the
church, and He is teacher of all knowledge. I believe to deny Him any or all
of these things would be to deny Him. We as believers cannot just make facts
out of something we elect too. Jesus has His teaching in His word and we must
seek to find and to believe all of them. We are not here to satisfy the world
as some religionist of our time try to do. This is the very thing that sets
us as sovereign grace Baptist apart from all other church. Churches today
that seek to draw the world into their congregations must please these worldly
people and to do that you must please their way of thinking and to do that
you must deny who Jesus truly is and that again is a Sovereign God.
V. 27 “But the anointing
which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man
teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is
truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
When the Lord tells us not to let any
man teach us it does not refer to those He has called to the Ministry but
rather he is speaking about those who teach lies about His word. Notice V. 26
“These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce
you.” These are the anti-christ and
ones that we are not to hear.
Beloved, we cannot allow ourselves to get caught up in the man’s
teaching, I am going to tell you like I tell the church here, do not listen
to Preaches that disagree with God’s truths because we are all subject to
being lead astray. Notice what God
called them “seducers” that means they are deceivers and the Anti\Christ will
be a deceiver and Satan is the father of all deceivers. I will tell you as
the old saying goes “play with fire and you are
going to get burnt”. Folks, you have a Pastor listen to him and he will lead
you right, you need no other source like T.V. Preacher’s, church is where you
learn truth not on T.V. Do not be led astray.
Verse 28 “And now, little
children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence,
and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” John has now changed his focus
here he is no longer talking to the second group of young believers but the
words little children here are the infant or very youngest believers, however
the focus does not change it is still on standing on the truths of God’s
word. Notice what John tells them “and not be ashamed before him at his
coming.” That is when Jesus calls you either by His second coming or by death
you must keep yourself pure in His word so that you will not be ashamed when
you face our Saviour. Believe me when I say this when you face Jesus you want
to be as pure in His word and as faithful to His church as you can be,
because if you are not it is not going to be a very happy first meeting. And
let’s not forget we can be called home at any time, therefore we must stay
ready. Let’s remember the ten virgins five were ready and five were not, do
not be one who is hunting oil for you lamp keep it trimmed and ready. By Pastor Randy Johnson, |
